Earth Day 2020: Why We’re Passionate About Solar PV
Today marks 50 years since the first Earth Day, when millions of people took to the streets to call for climate justice in what would go on to become the world’s largest recurring civic event.
While we are firm believers that Earth Day is every day, we wanted to use this special anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on what brought us into the solar PV industry. The team at Mayfield Renewables is filled with ardent solar PV advocates and industry thought leaders so in the spirit of the holiday we asked: “What makes you passionate about solar?”
On the whole, responses to our question wasn’t surprising:our staff shares a common belief in environmentalism and equity—but the breadth and diversity of individual responses was interesting. Some pointed to specific life moments that pushed us toward renewables, whereas others were more motivated by scientific data or simply want to leave a healthier planet for their children and grandchildren. The common theme: “I want to be a part of the solution, not the problem.”
Below are just a few snippets from our survey results. Keep an eye on our LinkedIn account as we continue to share more in the coming weeks.
For those of us in the solar industry, this work isn’t just about a job, it is connected to our passion to make the world a better place. Our Founder and CEO, Ryan Mayfield is committed to building a community of like-minded, innovative leaders who are driven by their love for their work.
More from our Senior Technical & Design Analyst Justine Sanchez: As professionals in the solar industry, our work isn’t just about what we accomplish today; it is about the precedent we set for future generations. As we create the transition to a clean energy future, we have to own our responsibility as renewable energy professionals to build the world we desire.
Some of our team discovered their passion for solar from their mentors in the industry. David Brearley, a Senior Project Manager at Mayfield, reminisces on his first experiences with solar that ultimately led him to his current career path. Can you remember what first inspired you about entering the solar industry?
In these uncertain times, it’s heartening to be reminded of all the positive lenses through which we view our work. Whatever your reason may be that keeps you passionate and driven to be in the solar industry, we hope you can share that reason with your community this Earth Day.
